“Eating healthy is SO EXPENSIVE!”
As they buy a $5 coffee….
5 tips for eating healthy on a budget!
Eating healthy can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be.
It’s a lot cheaper to buy something off the dollar menu at McDonalds, but the reality of it is that you will pay for that later on.
You will pay for it in medical bills.
So, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE – doing your best to budget in healthier choices is going to benefit you greatly in the long run.
5 tips:
1. Keep it basic. Don’t buy “health washed” foods like Veggie puffs or organic Oreos. Convenience food will always cost more. Buy the meat that’s on sale (whole chickens always cheaper than parts), local farmers markets will have some of the best value on in season vegetables, and it doesn’t get any cheaper than rice, beans! If those 4 things are staples in your diet – you’re doing great.
2. If possible, buy in bulk. I know storage is often an issue, but if you can shop at places like Costco or restaurant supply stores even for one person can save you a lot of money in the long run.
3. While I will always buy organic / free range/ grass fed if it’s an option, it’s absolutely not a “requirement” to eating healthy.
4. Frozen fruits / veggies are just as nutritious (if not potentially more) as fresh.
5. Planning your meals will help keep you from wasting food.
It’s about priorities…I don’t have a car payment or netflix but I’ve got leggings for days so…we choose what we want to spend our money on.
What’s your budget blower?!? Could you practice any of these 5 tips better? Let me know:))
