To be totally fair – your bodyweight, a couple gallons of water, a bucket and a step can get you pretty much anywhere you want to be goal wise, but if you’re willing/able to invest let’s get a little more technical. This is not an exhaustive list, but it is in order of cost effective necessities in my opinion.
EQUIPMENT
Basic At Home
- Full set of resistance bands with handles & door attachment
- Mini band set (3-5 resistance levels)
- OPTIONAL: DUMBBELL (DB) SET: 5-50# (5’S, 10’S & 15’S ARE A GREAT START)
This is a very basic but FULL setup. The number of things you can do with just this is never ending & highly effective, but workout gear is fun, so let’s keep going!
Hobbyist
- Adjustable Bench OR Bret Contreras hip thruster bench is very versatile
- Pullup Bar
- Superband Set
- Stability Ball
- TRX/Gymnastics rings
- (+BASIC AT HOME)
Lifer
- Olympic bar
- 10# rubber plates
- 2.5/5/25/35/45# plate set
- Squat rack/pull-up bar
- Kettlebells or T-Bell
- (+HOBBYIST & BASIC)
The reality of it is that you can end up neck deep in workout equipment and never see any progress if you don’t use it – happens all the time. What I recommend is get the basic setup first, find your routine, find out what you love it and/or will use before investing anymore money into more equipment.
