Fat Burning Workouts

This isn’t a thing.

Fat loss comes from your nutrition and being in a caloric deficit. You can do all the “fat burning” workouts you want and not see any changes if you’re not eating properly.

You can not workout at all and see fat loss if you’re eating properly.

Generally it is high intensity workouts that are touted as “fat burning” which is backed by the heart rate monitors that tell you how many “calories you burned” after your sweaty, jumping charade of a “HIIT” workout.

All of which is garbage…

Then there’s the “fat burning zone” on the cardio equipment that while yes, you may be using primarily fat as fuel is so negligible you might as well skip that 30 mins of cardio and not eat your last bite of food instead. This is not to say that Low Intensity cardio is worthless – any and all movement is great BUT just know what it’s doing and WHY you’re doing it.

So lets dispel this.

High intensity workouts are not inherently fat burning. They burn calories, yes – but not necessarily from fat. To simplify this excessively, these types of workouts are going to use glycogen as a fuel source which comes from carbs. When you burn more calories than you consume, yes – you will lose fat.

HOWEVER.

When you’re working out, your heart rate does not solely determine caloric usage, which is the only thing that fitness watches have to go off of in terms of “calories burned”. So not only are they wildly inaccurate, but that also shouldn’t be your ONLY GOAL when it comes to a workout.

PRO TIP:
When you have more MUSCLE, you burn more calories even at rest.

When you STRENGTH TRAIN, you build muscle AND burn calories.

Long story short – you want to lose fat?

Go lift heavy shit and eat at or below maintenance! 👊🏼
