I’m sure you’ve been wondering about your muscle fibers…
Let me enlighten you;)
Each specific muscle that we have a name for, like the biceps or quads, is actually made up of tons of different muscle FIBERS. These fibers are labeled based on the SPEED at which they obtain energy (ATP-adenosine triphosphate) to continue working.
The three main types are:
➡️SLOW OXIDATIVE (SO)- slow twitch- endurance
➡️FAST OXIDATIVE (FO) – Fast twitch 2A
➡️FAST GLYCOLYTIC (FG) – Fast twitch 2B
Generally speaking, there are muscles that are going to be more one type than the other based on their function – however, there is research showing that we can actually increase the amount of fast or slow twitch fibers that make up a muscle based on the kind of training we do!
Which means, the more you train speed and power – the more your muscles will adapt to that.
The more you train endurance – the more your muscles will adapt to that.
Despite your goals, a well rounded training plan should include a healthy dose of all types!
Are you training for more endurance or speed/power?
Do you incorporate the other kind of training also?
If not, what are you waiting for?!?!
