Read this study breakdown to learn how you can improve your body composition with this ONE SIMPLE STEP.
This study took two groups of people who were eating at MAINTENANCE CALORIES, but UNDEREATING PROTEIN.
The question was, what happens to body composition when you simply…INCREASE PROTEIN?
Both groups were intaking about 1900 calories INITIALLY.
They were instructed to NOT EXERCISE and to keep their intake the same.
For 12 weeks one group’s protein intake was increased to .8g protein/lb of body weight (which by the way is the LOWEST recommended intake of protein for optimal function), while the control group stayed at .5g protein/lb of body weight.
So what happened?
Three things.
- The high protein group AUTOMATICALLY AND INTUITIVELY decreased their intake by about 6% – which is what you see in the calorie difference.
2. They LOST 2 LBS, while the low protein group GAINED .4 lbs.
3.
They converted 2.8 lbs of body fat into muscle while the low protein group LOST .6lbs of muscle.
Moral of the story…
If you want to do ONE SIMPLE THING to improve your overall health…
Increase your protein to AT LEAST .8g/lb of body weight or 1.8-2.2 lbs of lean body mass.
