I bet your smoothies are missing something…
The key to a quality smoothie is to make it BALANCED.
The most common mistake I see when people make smoothies is that they’re ALL FRUIT.
Fruit is not necessarily bad, but smoothie calories/ carbs add up QUICKLY.
To make a smoothie a fully balanced meal, it needs
PROTEIN
and
FAT
With Adding greens or vegetables as an added bonus!
This will also slow the digestion of the fruit sugars, making it fat more satiating than just fruit on its own.
Plus, it tastes better IMO!
Protein options include:
– protein powder (plant, whey, etc.
@legion if you want the best)
– collagen
– Greek yogurt
– cottage cheese
– Tofu
Fat options include:
– avocado (fiber bonus)
– nut butter
– whole fat dairy (milk/cottage cheese)
– hemp / chia / flax seeds
– coconut
Veggies to include that don’t alter the taste too much:
– spinach (personal fav)
– kale
– zucchini
– carrots
Obviously not an exhaustive list – get creative and see what you like!
My smoothies are always for the whole family so I don’t measure much, generally just use handfuls and whatever will come apart from the frozen chunks but usually 1/4-1/2 cup of fruit depending on how many different ones you use will be good!
